If you purchased your vehicle from a FL Mazda Dealer, then you might want to check on the current recall status right now. With approximately 500,000 vehicles being affect by a power steering problem recall, Mazda drivers across the globe are at risk. The specific models recalled are the Mazda3 and Mazda5 from 2007 through 2008. All dealerships and brands have experienced their fair share of recalls, including the super safe line up from Ford San Diego. Often times, a vehicle is recalled before any serious problems actually arise. Mazda takes the recall business seriously and continuously checks in on all of their vehicles, even the ones from past production. While a recall may sway a shopper to go for the VW Specials rather than a Mazda, buyers need to rest assured that recalls are simply a part of life, and at least there are agencies created specifically for catching safety flaw issues.
This specific recall has to do with the power steering function. If your Mazda3 or Mazda5 has the electro hydraulic power assist option then your vehicle is part of the ones affected by the recall. The vehicles in Europe that are affected will go in October to get their vehicles fixed at no cost under the Special Service Program. There are an estimated 40,000 Mazda3 models affected as well as 30,000 Mazda5 models affected. The risk is that drivers will suddenly lose their power steering function, which could cause drivers to have an accident. There were already vehicles in Japan that were fixed last year when the problem was first identified. Mazda only just now realized how many vehicles are actually affected. There could be rust that has developed in the system and when it finally breaks loose due to the high-pressure, it would put unusual stress on the power steering pump, thereby eliminating the system entirely.
