Rain is a common occurrence on highways and roads throughout the world. Driving in rain is quite a bit different than driving on dry roads in clear weather. There are many accidents that happen during rainy weather which could be prevented with a few safe driving tips.
Wet roads are more slippery due to a thin amount of water that causes tires to lose traction. Therefore, you should be sure to drive no faster than the speed limit when it is rainy. Most people at least follow this rule when it is rainy, but you would be surprised what happens in this weather.
The other thing to note is that it is much harder to see through rain than clear weather. Obstacles in the front and behind, blind spots, headlights, other vehicles, signs, and traffic lights are all more difficult to see. Driving more slowly will help you see more objects and lights since you will have more time to focus on an object.
Many vehicles do not have proper windshield wipers. It is important that high quality windshield wipers are working on the automobile, and that they are replaced at soon as they are no longer effective at wiping the full length of the blade. If the wiper mechanism is not working or the wiper is not removing all of the water that the blade touches, the vehicle is simply not safe to drive in rain.
